•11.12.2009 • Leave a CommentSo, I realize that the Daily Doodles have been, well, less than daily. I’m working on them with renewed vigor, at least until I get sidetracked again. BUT! In the meantime, here is today’s, and I’ll be posting it in the proper section, too:

‘Comics’ section: welcome!
•11.11.2009 • Leave a CommentHave finally assembled enough comic art to start up its very own page. Wander with your cursor to the ‘Pages’ sidebar on the right, and click the ‘Comickry’ link. Select pages I illustrated for Saint James’s title ‘The Strange’ are starting the gallery off, and I’m hoping to add a few of my own creations as time allows. Cheers!
Spreading Halloween cheer
•10.28.2009 • Leave a CommentHere’s a page from Part I of the Saint James webcomic The Strange. If you’ve been here before, you know I’ve been touting this thing ad nauseum, but it gets cooler and cooler every time they send me more script. We’re getting ready for a major turn in the story, so if you haven’t already, head on over to Saint James and sign up for their newsletter; it’s the only way to get a first look at the latest issue of the comic. Don’t neglect their other titles, either: these guys have a story for every sci fi/fantasy subgenre there is!

Nacks
•10.25.2009 • 1 CommentHave officially joined up with Airship Isabella, a production company of professional steampunkers in Austin, TX, to bring anachronistic (‘nack’) steampunk to Austin and The World! Airship Isabella worked with us on Blue Ridge Pictures’ film Succumb, which wrapped production yesterday. They provided us with some amazing wardrobe and acting talent, as well as assisting myself and the design team with set decorating and building. Thanks in large part to their experience, skills, and general badassery, the set was elevated to new heights. Keep in touch, as I’ll be documenting my adventures with the crew of the Isabella, and posting all the perty pictures/sets/illustrations/etc etc we’ll be creating in the months and years to come.
I can’t possibly discuss Succumb without giving due attention to Hipnautica, a dark world electronica band that not only contributed their time and talent to designing and decorating the stage of our industrial bar scene, but also performed for the film. Hipnautica’s incredible range and musical abilities, in addition to some absolutely amazing dancers and real skill in set design and set construction, gave Succumb an extra edge that we would have been poor without. We also had the treat of watching them shoot some of their music video for their latest album, Exile, which I’ve been listening to nonstop for the past two days (and will continue tomorrow). Truly a gorgeous and diverse group of artists.
As you can tell, I am extremely excited about the potential of Succumb, and truly honored to have worked with such talent, from our film cast and crew, to Airship Isabella and Hipnautica. Check out Airship on Myspace, and here is Hipnautica.
Thanks and cheers,
JR
SUCCUMB concept paintings

Three new paintings up in the ‘Film’ section: concepts for the industrial bar set of Succumb. They’re at the very bottom, so you’ll have to do a little scrolling, and perhaps have a look at all the other new pieces I’ve posted in the past week as you make your way to the Succumb stuff ::wink wink::
